Boy do I know this! I have to Tom cats, Monster and Smoke who live outside, and they have a couple of neighbor cats who love to come and eat and drink at our house! We even had on the 4th of July a mother turkey with her babies come up to sip out of the children's pool! Seriously!...although I had to fish out a poor little frog who might have been too exhausted by the time he discovered the water...so sad...they all need water!!!!
A very timely reminder! If it's hot and miserable outside for us, imagine them wearing fur coats! Another thing people sometimes don't think about, is how hot that road, pavement, or truckbed can be! Yes, the pads on outdoor animals feet are toughed by use, but they still can feel pain and be burned by hot surfaces! If your dog is being skittish about crossing the street with you, he/she may be trying to say OUCH!!
I JUST HAD TO TURN A VAN IN AT THE STORE POOR LIL DOG WAS BARKING AND ONLY THE BACK WINDOW WAS SMALL CRACKED :( THE STORE MADE AN ANNOUNCEMENT FOR THE OWNER OF SUCH & SUCH CAR ATTEND TO YOUR DOG! WHY BRING PETS IN A CAR IN HOT OR EVEN WARM WEATHER?
He Ann ~~ I'd like a kid sized pool to jump in and cool off too!
Animals, especially domestic ones, are at the mercy of us humans for their well existence. We, as humans, are stewards of the earth and all that dwells within.
Jim's Six Word Saturday (I have deciede too late that the burrow here needs a break that his ownsers aren't letting him have.) ..

We recently got a bird bath for our backyard and I've tried to keep it filled - the sun evaporates it very quickly during the day. But we've seen all kinds of birds and even squirrels hanging out in there during these hot days.
I also read your post above about seeing that dog in the car. Good for you making sure that dog was taken care of - people are so thoughtless sometimes.

ReplyDeleteI don't have a pet but I hope that the pet owners are keeping their pets cool.
ReplyDeleteGood advice! Our daughter's big ole farm dog looked so hot the other day. I felt sorry for him because he has so much fur.

I am not sure locking dogs in a walk in freezer is what is needed ... But, yes, keep the animals cool and hydrated. Good message as we all bake ...

Good reminder in this heat wave!
